Writing Challenge: Day Four

Discuss your views on religion.

This is always an interesting topic, and it always seems to spark massive debates.

I identify as a Buddhist, because everything they stand for, their teachings, their way of life, their inner peace, everything about them interests me and keeps me sane.

But I don’t throw my religion around, I don’t shove it down other people’s throats. I have respect for other religions just as I would hope other people have respect for my own.

And now, before judgemental people tell me that ‘I’m a wannabe’ I will say that while I don’t officially practise the Buddhist way of life, I do participate in meditation and yoga, in order to eventually find my way to Nirvana, by reaching enlightenment and having inner peace.

I will admit one thing, I don’t abstain from drinking alcohol, I’m not an idiot.

I think everyone is entitled to believe in what or whoever they want, as long as they have respect for other peoples beliefs, and don’t try to shove it down my throat.

If you’re an atheist, great. If you’re Jewish, great. If you’re Muslim, great. I love all people equally and religion has nothing to do with how decent, honest or kind human beings are.

  1. Definitely agree, I think a lot of people have it in their head that their religion or views are the only ones that matter and often times use that as a easy way to justify being cruel. I always thought you could believe in any religion you want and still act like a human and realize that you’re not the only one that thinks and feels.

  2. Definitely agree. Some people also shove their political views down your throat without showing any respect for other people’s. Often with a do as I say don’t do as I do attitude

  3. The issue of religion as it has always been a very challenging issue to debate or discuss, because you just want to use the right words, come up with the right statements in other not to hurt anyone’s feelings…..i mean not to step on anyone’s toes.
But as it is, just as we are all entitled to our opinions and we can’t really change how people are, we can’t change or impose any kind of religion on anyone. It’s a matter of choice.
I’m a strong Christian and i love my religion so much. My doctrines teaches me to respect people and their opinions and that’s exactly what I do. Because at the end of the day we all arrive at almost the same thing.
